01 · The problem

Most cabling problems don't announce themselves.

A camera that goes offline in the heat. A phone that only drops on long calls. A workstation that negotiates at 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps and nobody notices for two years. The switch gets blamed, then replaced, and the problem stays. Underneath, the causes are almost always the same:

Intermittent drops on one device

USUALLY CAUSED BY Untested drop, marginal termination, or a kinked run.

A device negotiating at a lower speed

USUALLY CAUSED BY Split pairs, damaged conductors, or exceeded 100 m limit.

Cameras dropping in summer

USUALLY CAUSED BY Cable run through an unconditioned attic or against a heat source.

PoE devices rebooting under load

USUALLY CAUSED BY Undersized or damaged conductors, long runs, cheap cable.

Nobody knows what a port does

USUALLY CAUSED BY No labeling, no records, no as-built.

Failed fire inspection

USUALLY CAUSED BY Non-plenum cable in a plenum space, or unsealed penetrations.

A rack you can't work in

USUALLY CAUSED BY No cable management, no slack, no service loops.

Cabling is the one layer you can't patch remotely. Doing it wrong is expensive twice: once to install it, once to open the walls again.

02 · What we install

One crew, from the drop to the patch panel.

We handle low-voltage as its own discipline, not as an afterthought bundled onto a network project. That means design, pathway, installation, termination, testing, and documentation are all ours — and all traceable to one team.

Copper drops

Cat6 and Cat6A for data, voice, wireless access points, cameras, and door readers. Plenum-rated where the space requires it.

Fiber runs

Single-mode and multimode for building-to-building links, between-floor backbones, and any run past copper's 100-meter limit.

Terminations

Keystone jacks, patch panels, and fiber cassettes, dressed and strain-relieved.

Pathway

J-hooks, conduit, cable tray, raceway, and core drilling where the run demands it. Cable is supported, never draped over ceiling grid.

Firestopping

Rated penetrations sealed with the correct product for the assembly, not spray foam.

Labeling

Both ends of every run, matched to the patch panel and the as-built drawing.

Certification testing

Every drop tested and the results handed over as a file, not a verbal "it's good."

Remediation

Existing installs cleaned up, re-terminated, re-labeled, and retested when a full replacement isn't warranted.

03 · Why "structured" matters

A cable plant is a system, not a pile of wire.

Structured cabling means the whole plant follows one standard — the same cable category, the same termination scheme, the same labeling convention, the same documented topology — so any technician can work on it without reverse-engineering someone else's improvisation first. Practically, that gets you four things:

It's swappable.

Change switches, add access points, move a department to a different VLAN — the physical layer doesn't need to be touched.

It's diagnosable.

When something breaks, a labeled, documented, tested plant turns a half-day of tracing into a five-minute lookup.

It lasts.

Cabling installed to standard is a 15-to-20-year asset. Active gear is replaced two or three times inside that window.

It survives you.

The whole point of documentation is that the person who installed it doesn't have to be the person who fixes it.

We don't blanket-spec the most expensive option. Workstation drops in an office are usually Cat6; backbone and riser runs are where the upgrade actually earns its cost.

04 · Racks and server rooms

The room where all of it lands.

A cable plant is only as usable as the space it terminates in. We build and rebuild racks and server rooms as part of the same scope:

Wall-mount and floor-standing racks, sized with room to grow
Patch panels, horizontal and vertical management, and correct service loops
Switch, firewall, and server placement planned around airflow, not convenience
Power distribution and UPS placement, with load actually calculated
Grounding and bonding per code
Labeled uplinks and a rack elevation drawing that matches reality
Cleanup of existing rooms — re-dress, re-label, retest, and photograph

If your current rack requires a flashlight and a guess, that's the job.

05 · Point-to-point wireless

When trenching isn't worth it.

Some runs shouldn't be cable. A shop across a parking lot, a scale house at the far end of the yard, a second building across a county road — trenching fiber can cost more than the link is worth. Licensed-exempt point-to-point bridges cover those gaps with clear line of sight.

It needs line of sight. Trees grow; we account for that, or we don't recommend it.
Weather, distance, and interference set the real throughput. We survey before quoting.
It's a link, not a network. It still terminates into cable, a switch, and a rack on both ends.
Where fiber is feasible and the trench is short, we'll say so and quote the fiber.

06 · How we scope it

Three ways to engage.

01 · ASSESS

Walk and test

We walk the building, map what's already there, test a sample of existing drops, and give you a written picture: what's usable, what needs remediation, what needs replacement, and what a full plant would cost. Useful before a lease signing, a purchase, or a budget cycle.

02 · DEPLOY

Design through handover

Design, materials, pathway, install, terminate, test, label, and document. Fixed scope, fixed drop count, certification results at handover.

03 · OPERATE

Adds, moves, and changes

As the space changes: new drops for a remodel, additional APs, camera relocations, and updated as-builts each time. Available standalone or inside a managed IT agreement.

07 · Process

Pathway first, documentation last, nothing skipped.

Walkthrough

We see the building, the ceilings, the pathways, and the obstacles. Photos and measurements, not assumptions from a floor plan.

Design and drop count

Where each drop lands, what category, what pathway, where it terminates. You approve the count before anything is ordered.

3

Coordination

Scheduling around your operations, and around other trades on new construction. Rough-in happens before drywall or it costs three times more.

Install

Pathway first, then pull, then dress and terminate. Firestopping as we go, not at the end.

Test and certify

Every drop tested; failures re-terminated and retested until they pass.

Document and hand over

Labeled panels, rack elevation, as-built drawing, port map, and the test result file. Yours to keep, whoever maintains it next.

08 · Honest limitations

What we won't do.

We won't quote a cable job over the phone. Drop counts, ceiling types, and pathway obstacles decide the price. Anyone quoting sight-unseen is guessing or padding.

We won't work around a fire code problem. If a space needs plenum cable or rated penetrations, that's what goes in, even when it changes the number.

We won't certify someone else's install as ours. We'll test it and tell you what it does, but our certification covers our work.

We won't tell you Wi-Fi replaces cabling. Access points, cameras, and anything stationary and bandwidth-hungry belong on copper.

We won't pull a run we know will fail. Past 100 meters on copper, the answer is fiber or an intermediate closet — not "let's see if it works."

We won't leave a job undocumented. If it isn't labeled and drawn, it isn't finished.

Common questions

How much does a drop cost?

It depends on run length, ceiling and wall construction, pathway, and how many drops share a pull. A 40-drop office with accessible ceilings has a very different per-drop cost than six drops through masonry. We price after the walkthrough.

Cat6 or Cat6A?

Cat6 handles the great majority of office drops well. We recommend Cat6A for backbone and riser runs, longer runs, dense PoE, and anywhere you'd rather not reopen a wall in eight years. We'll tell you which drops actually justify it.

Do we need fiber?

If you're linking buildings, crossing floors, or exceeding 100 meters, yes. For runs inside a single floor, usually not.

Can you work in an occupied building?

Yes. Most of our work is in operating offices, clinics, and production facilities. We schedule pulls and cutovers around your hours and coordinate noisy or disruptive work in advance.

We're building new — when should you be involved?

Before drywall. Rough-in during framing is the cheapest cabling you will ever buy. Bring us in when the electrical plan is being drawn, not after.

Can you fix cabling somebody else installed?

Often, yes. We test what's there, re-terminate and re-label what's salvageable, and replace only the runs that genuinely fail. You get the test results either way.

Do you subcontract this?

No. Structured cabling, racks, server rooms, and low-voltage are in-house crews.

Do you also configure the network on top of it?

Yes — switching, firewalls, Wi-Fi, cameras, and door access are all in-house, so the physical and logical layers are designed together rather than handed between vendors.
